Christian music for the young and the young at heart.

Original Music Based on the Inspired Version of the Bible, Book of Mormon, and Doctrine and Covenants

My name is Diane Anderson Ludy, and my friends call me “Dee.”  I am happy to present a selection of original songs based on the Scriptures of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints—the Inspired Version of the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the Doctrine and Covenants.

My music-writing “career” started in 1980 when I began teaching at Sionita School, a Christian school started by members of the Church. The curriculum included Scripture study and introduced a verse from each week’s reading, which the students were expected to memorize.  We understood the importance of knowing the Scriptures and that by committing gems of wisdom to memory, those words help us in times when we may not have our books available.

My previous experience with young children and teenagers at youth camps and church reunions taught me the value of using music to learn, so I began composing melodies for some of the verses.  I realized the Lord was directing and blessing my efforts because the songs flowed so easily and naturally.  The students learned them rapidly, and even years later many were able to sing what they had learned as children.  I have written the music for nearly 100 songs based on the Scriptures, with an emphasis on Zion and people such as Enoch, King Benjamin, Nephi, and others.

For more than 20 years the school children in grades one through twelve put on hour-long programs with Scripture recitation and songs that were either exact quotations or adapted from the Three Standard Books.  People who heard them were amazed that so much could be memorized by the various ages.  We traveled to Nauvoo, Kirtland, Palmyra, and other places with the students, often stopping to present musical programs in churches along the way.  Each year, the students also provided music ministry for regular preaching services in several congregations.

It has been very gratifying to watch our students prick up their ears in church services and start to smile when they heard a scripture which they had learned in a song and then to see them mouth the words along with the speaker.  Often, if they were asked to recite something they had memorized from the Scriptures—even long passages such as the Everlasting Covenant, the Everlasting Decree, or the Ten Commandments—they would reply, “I can’t say it, but I can sing it!”

While most of my music has been written with young people in mind, much of it is also appropriate for adults.  Music has a unique way of helping us all learn.  Some of it has been used by soloists and small groups.

I am making this music available free of charge, knowing that it isn’t really mine but the Lord’s.  May all the praise and thanks be to Him.

I hope you will try some of these songs for your own enjoyment and for use with homeschoolers, children’s choirs, vacation church school, camps, reunions, etc.  Please feel free to copy and print the songs that will fit your needs.  Additional songs will be added to this website from time to time, so please return often.
